Crow is the only son of, as he puts it, a "cheap whore" and a "worthless drunk." While the whore died in childbirth, the drunk lived-- and for that matter, thrived; he was much happier without that bitch nagging at him, either.

Crow's father was the type to lean towards violence when both drunk and sober, and Crow spent the first thirteen years of his life living with abuse and pain. When he finally decided to leave, he stabbed his sleeping father with a broken bottle and ran. Crow doesn't know whether he's alive or not. He likes to think he doesn't care.

After a while of living on his own, he eventually moved into an abandoned building after fighting the previous inhabitants. He stole a knife, a good knife, and his most prized possesion. And he met Kooly and Lark.

Crow pretends to be far tougher, far stronger, far more capable than he really is; he pretends to convince both others and himself. He pretends apathy. He pretends to be careless and carefree and uncaring towards everything.

Beyond the act, Crow is easy to understand, easier than he'd like to be; easily amused, easily angered, easily hurt. He's beaten a superiority complex into himself to hide the inferiority caused by his father.

However, one thing is clear about Crow: he has a very strong malicious streak. He laughs at the weak and throws rocks at puppies. It distances people, and for Crow, that's all he needs.
